Earth Day Labyrinth Walk

Earth Day Labyrinth Walk

Sunday, April 21, 2024 (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Earth Day 2024 is soon upon us and Balsam Moon Preserve invites you to come walk the Labyrinth in the Woods on Sunday, April 21 (though Earth Day is actually April 22) between 1:00-4:00pm. Bring the whole family and spend some time outside slowing down and enjoying the quiet of the wind in the trees as you walk the labyrinth in honor of Earth Day.

Then venture further and walk the trails (under a mile each) in addition to the labyrinth and see what wildlife you can observe.  You might spot otters in the pond, hear Great Horned Owls in the woods, see and hear a variety of birds in the trees, see suckers in the creek, notice turkey and deer wandering the grounds or woodchucks racing to and from their holes in the ground.

Additional classes are also offered in the coming months including: a silent nature walk & Field Regeneration session Part 2 on Saturday, May 11, 9am-noon;  Morel Mushroom foraging on Friday, May 17, 1-5pm; Earthship Chicken Coop project June 22-July 14; and the monthly Pizza Nights begin June 14, 5-7pm (2nd Fridays) preceded by a Sustainable Tour from 4-5pm.

The new StoryWalk® book, Crinkleroot’s Guide to Walking in Wild Places by Jim Arnosky, will be available beginning May 1.  Children and families of all ages are welcome and can play “nature BINGO” with the story for added fun through the woods. It's a great way to be out having fun in nature.

Registration for all classes and activities is encouraged by calling 218-587-3808 or emailing BalsamMoon3148@gmail.com.  You are also welcome to come out and simply walk the trails, grounds, labyrinth or sit by the pond and enjoy nature. Your group, organization, work staff are welcome to come for a Sustainability Tour & pizza lunch or a snack of homemade bread and jam.  Or maybe you need a respite away from the hustle and bustle and you can book an overnight stay in the cordwood cabins.

Balsam Moon operates on reciprocity, no fees are charged for classes and activities. They welcome “giving” (money, labor, goods needed, etc.) in accordance to what you receive.
